Santa Fe Is Expanding—and Lahontan Is Already Looking Ahead to the Next Phase of Growth
In Nevada's gold-rich Walker Lane, Lahontan Gold is increasingly taking shape as a future mine operator. The historic Santa Fe Mine remains the centrepiece, but the updated resource estimate has noticeably strengthened the project's foundation: 1.195 million ounces of gold equivalent in the Indicated category, plus another 1.190 million ounces in the Inferred category, totalling around 2.39 million ounces. Compared with the previous estimate, this represents an overall increase of 22%, with the near-surface Slab and York oxide zones standing out in particular with a volume increase of more than 37%. This scale gives the company a substantial resource base to build on for the next steps toward economic development. The strategic question is now less about how many more ounces can be discovered and more about how quickly, and with how much capital, those resources can be turned into a profitable mining operation.

Historic Heap-Leach Pads Add New Material for the Gold Story
A particularly appealing starting point lies, of all places, in the legacy of the former mining operation: the historic heap-leach pads, where previously processed rock could still contain precious metals. The latest sonic drilling on Heap Leach Pad Two provides concrete evidence: ten drill holes totalling 168.9 m were reported, including a 16.5 m interval grading 2.72 g/t gold and 2.8 g/t silver. The samples evaluated to date yield a weighted average of 0.50 g/t gold and 3.3 g/t silver, or 0.54 g/t gold equivalent (AuEq). Historical production data show that around 3.76 million tonnes of material with an original average grade of 0.58 g/t AuEq were deposited on this heap; the recovery rates at the time imply an expected residual grade of approximately 0.32 g/t AuEq. If reprocessing the material proves technically and economically viable, Lahontan could tap into an additional raw material stream without having to fully develop a new deposit.
Emergent Acquisition: Greater Control, Lower Royalty Burden
With the acquisition of Emergent Metals agreed on September 15, Lahontan is taking a strategic step that goes far beyond merely expanding its project portfolio. The transaction is intended to give Lahontan full control over West Santa Fe while avoiding the previously planned payments of around CAD 2.39 million to acquire the remaining interest. In addition, the existing 1% net smelter return royalties on West Santa Fe and the 27 York claims will be eliminated, a significant step for the project's future economics. Further assets include the adjacent New York Canyon project with copper, gold, silver and molybdenum potential, as well as a USD 3.5 million receivable from Fairchild Gold, 12.5 million Fairchild shares and a royalty on the Golden Arrow project. Overall, Lahontan would thereby control a contiguous land package of more than 93 km² in the Walker Lane while also gaining additional monetisation opportunities. The strategic appeal lies in the combination of greater project control, lower ongoing burdens and additional assets – not solely in the size of the new land package. However, the transaction has not yet been completed and remains subject, among other things, to the required shareholder, court and stock exchange approvals.
West Santa Fe Evolves from Satellite Project into a Growth Opportunity
As Santa Fe heads toward its next economic assessment, West Santa Fe is intended to broaden its long-term resource base. To this end, Lahontan has launched a new drilling campaign of around 3,500 m in 20 drill holes to define resources and extend known mineralisation. The project is located about 13 km from Santa Fe and has a historical drilling database, which Lahontan partially confirmed with its first campaign in December 2025. Particularly notable at the time was drill hole WSF25-04R, with 36.6 m from surface grading 3.11 g/t AuEq, including 1.47 g/t gold and 140.1 g/t silver. The entire interval was described as oxide mineralisation. The work underway aims to refine the geometry of the mineralised system and test areas that have so far been less thoroughly investigated, before pursuing an initial resource estimate. If West Santa Fe can be converted into a robust resource, Lahontan will gain an additional lever for future growth alongside the Santa Fe production project. The new drilling results and subsequent resource definition are now crucial, as this is where the leverage for an upcoming revaluation lies.
CEO Kimberly Ann comments: „Lahontan looks forward to resuming drilling at West Santa Fe following the success of our first drilling campaign last December. Our geological team has modelled the distribution and geometry of gold and silver mineralisation throughout the West Santa Fe system, with a particular focus on areas that were inadequately explored by previous operators. This work identified numerous target areas where further drilling can both extend the known mineralised system and improve our understanding of its geometry. We expect the results of this programme during 2026.“
The New PEA: A Comprehensive Assessment of the Project’s Economic Potential Is Expected
The updated Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) remains the central economic test. The 2024 study assumed investment costs of around USD 135 million, operating costs of about USD 1,233 per ounce of gold, and a planned mine life of eight years, based on an assumed gold price of USD 1,950 per ounce at the time. Since then, the resource has been expanded, and the new PEA is also expected to examine the extraction and processing of sulphide resources for the first time. Added to this are the potential reprocessing of the historical stockpiles, greater control over West Santa Fe and York, and the elimination of the relevant royalties, provided the acquisition is completed as planned. These factors could significantly improve the overall picture, but capital requirements and operating costs will naturally also increase in the current environment. The new study must also present a revised timeline and recalculated financing plan in a robust, credible manner. The company continues to target a construction start in 2027. As we have come to expect from CEO Kimberly Ann, she will push ahead with permitting, financing, and execution in a timely manner. The most exciting phase for investors is now beginning!

Outlook and Conclusion: From Junior Explorer to Regional Gold Platform
Lahontan is increasingly evolving from a single mining project into a regional precious metals platform with several potential sources of value. Historical Santa Fe production of 359,202 ounces of gold and 702,067 ounces of silver demonstrates that the area has already been commercially exploited. However, it does not replace a current assessment of the economic viability and technical requirements for a restart. Expanding personnel in exploration, mine planning, investor relations, and finance fits the next development phase, in which project management, permitting, and capital raising will become considerably more demanding. The planned Emergent acquisition could also strengthen the starting position, but must first be completed and then incorporated into a clear capital allocation strategy.
This presents investors with several potential catalysts: the new PEA, further results from the heap leach pads, drilling data from West Santa Fe and the completion of the Emergent transaction. At the same time, financing, permitting timelines, metallurgical results and the actual feasibility of the production plan remain important milestones. The latest capital raising of CAD 13.6 million and ongoing warrant exercises provide the company with a solid financial base well into 2027. This largely decouples the exploration and development strategy from the short-term capital market cycle.
CEO and founder Kimberly Ann comments: „Lahontan continues to make progress on several fronts, including mine development, permitting, exploration drilling and preparations for future growth at West Santa Fe. With several important milestones expected in the near future, including an updated mineral resource estimate, exploration results and progress on technical studies, we believe the company is well positioned to continue creating value. As permitting and mine development progress, we are expanding both our geological and mining teams to support the next phase of growth. We remain on schedule to complete permitting in 2027 and advance the construction of a new mine at Santa Fe, which will give rise to Nevada's newest gold mining company.“
Conclusion: 2027 as the Finish Line - Things Are Now Falling into Place
Santa Fe is heading towards the decisive development phase. The revised PEA will be the litmus test for economic viability, while drilling results from West Santa Fe and progress on the planned Emergent acquisition could provide additional impetus. This also changes the perspective on the company: it is no longer just the discovery potential that counts, but the ability to turn geological opportunities into a financeable mining project. If Lahontan manages this transition convincingly, Santa Fe could take a decisive step from development project towards production in 2027. The road ahead is demanding, but it is precisely the next milestones that now promise excitement for the market.

In the future, hard facts are likely to play an increasingly important role in shaping the share price: the updated PEA, robust drilling results, permitting progress and a clearly defined financing path. Lahontan is entering a phase where strategic plans translate into measurable progress, and each milestone could reshape the market's perception of the company. Investors should use the current consolidation across the gold and silver sectors to selectively add to their positions. As the next steps toward development become more concrete, the stock could move to a significantly higher level.
